Victoria Beckham's collection of 10 dresses hits Selfridges stores in London and Manchester today. The line, called dVb , is filled with high waists, curve-hugging fabrics and 1950s-inspired silhouettes, and each design looks like a dress that was probably already hanging in Posh's closet.
In an interview with The London Times, Victoria, who refers to the collection as her "fourth child," admits that fashion was always her first love. "I was never that good a singer but I think I am good at fashion. Even when I was at school, I was always customizing my uniform." She sounds like a regular Jenny Humphrey. Victoria added, "Being in the Spice Girls, fashion-wise probably didn't open any doors. If anything it shut doors and I've had to bang them down." That makes sense, but Victoria got off easy considering those Union Jack dresses Geri Halliwell was presumably forced to wear.
It's clear that Victoria has an eye for fashion. Her dresses are beautiful and well-tailored, even if they are only suitable for Posh-sized ladies. But will real women fork over their cash for those four-figure price tags? Victoria isn't worried. "In these recessionary times, and at these prices, women are looking for something that will be an investment, aren't they?" Well, that's one way to look at it.
Victoria Beckham's line will be available at Harrods, Bergdorf Goodman in New York and on netaporter.com in 2009.
Watch the ad for her collection here and see how difficult it is to play hide and go seek in these dresses. Victoria also makes a fleeting appearance.
